Optimising Nutrition
There are several reasons why people choose to buy and eat organic food:
Health benefits: Organic food is grown without the use of synthetic pesticides, fertilizers, and other chemicals, which can reduce exposure to toxic substances and promote a healthier diet.
Environmental sustainability: Organic farming practices are designed to be environmentally friendly, conserving soil and water resources, and reducing pollution and waste.
Animal welfare: Organic farmers are required to adhere to strict standards for animal welfare, ensuring that livestock is raised in healthy, humane conditions.
Taste: Many people believe that organic food tastes better than conventionally grown food because it is grown using traditional farming methods that prioritize flavor and quality.
Support for small farmers: Buying organic food helps support small farmers who are dedicated to using sustainable, environmentally responsible farming practices.
It's important to note that while organic food can offer several benefits, it's not always possible for everyone to buy organic due to cost, availability, or other factors. However, choosing organic food whenever possible can help support a healthier and more sustainable food system.
What are some of the benefits of eating organic where possible?
There are several health benefits associated with consuming organic fruit and vegetables as opposed to conventionally grown produce:
Reduced pesticide exposure: Organic produce is grown without the use of synthetic pesticides, which can be toxic and have negative health effects. By consuming organic produce, you can reduce your exposure to these harmful chemicals.
Increased nutrient content: Some studies have shown that organic produce can have higher levels of certain nutrients, such as vitamin C, compared to conventionally grown produce.
Lower risk of foodborne illness: Organic produce is grown using practices that minimize the risk of foodborne illness caused by pathogens like E. coli or Salmonella.
Better for the environment: Organic farming practices are designed to promote environmental sustainability, conserving soil and water resources and reducing pollution and waste. By choosing organic produce, you can contribute to a healthier planet.
Many people choose to consume organic produce as a way to reduce their exposure to harmful chemicals and support environmentally sustainable agriculture.
Unfortunately our exposure to chemicals is at unprecedented levels. Thousands of chemicals that were never before in our environment, we are now exposed to daily. Things like glyphosate, exhaust fumes, flame retardants, xeno estrogens, BPA's and Phthalates, cleaning chemicals and the list goes on and unfortunately on, so supporting our detox pathways, our methylation and glutiathione pathways are also things to consider in a holistic approach to reducing our toxic load.
Getting organic produce can be an issue not to mention the expense but whenever possible it will go a long way to improving our health, lowering the toxic load and helping us live younger, longer.
Look local for possible organic produce producers. I am lucky enough to have found a couple and they even deliver (how awesome is that).
